We ask young people aged 13\u201317 questions about our Theory of Change outcomes: Adventure, Skills for life, Wellbeing, Leadership, Citizenship, and Connectedness. By doing so, we can find out if and how the impact of Scouts is changing throughout our Skills for Life strategy.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWe\u2019ve compared the Theory of Change results for 2023 with 2019, which marks the start of our Skills for Life strategy. Since 2019, there\u2019ve been significant improvements* across seven outcomes:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E*Statistical comparisons between 2019 and 2023 results are measured by a Mann-Whitney U test. Only significant differences where there was a change of at least \u002B4% or \u20134% and p \u0026lt; .05 are reported.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003EWellbeing\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EHappiness (\u002B5%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ELife satisfaction (\u002B5%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ESense that life is worthwhile (\u002B5%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003ECitizenship\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ESense of local (\u002B5%), national (\u002B6%) and international citizenship (\u002B7%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EContribute to the community (\u002B6%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EVolunteering in the community (\u002B22%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003EConnectedness\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ERespect and trust for others (\u002B11%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EHowever, five outcomes have slightly declined since 2019:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003ESkills for life\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EIndependence (-4%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003EWellbeing\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EPerseverance and grit (-9%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ESelf-confidence (-4%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EAnxiety (\u002B22%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003EConnectedness\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ERespect and trust for people of different races, cultures, and religions (-5%)\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2021, following the COVID\u201319 pandemic, we saw declines across a number of outcomes. A few of these outcomes returned to the pre-pandemic (2019) results in 2022, but many of them were still significantly lower than 2019.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2023, four outcomes returned to the pre-pandemic results (meaning they\u2019re no longer significantly different to 2019):\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ECourage to take risks and tackle challenges\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EProblem solving\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ETeam working\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ECaring for others\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWe\u2019re committed to improving the experience of young people in Scouts. We use the insights from this survey and other feedback from young people and volunteers to feed into the programme activities we\u2019ll develop in the year ahead.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ETo give young people more opportunities to tackle challenges, solve problems and work together outdoors, we\u2019ve launched programme resources for our Outdoor in 24 initiative, which encourages Scout Sections, from Squirrels to Network, to get outside in 2024. Whether it\u2019s just for one meeting, a Night Away event, or taking on the Outdoor in 24 challenge, we\u2019re hoping to get young people trying new things outdoors this year.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EConscious of the decreases in connectedness and caring for others, as well as the increase in anxiety, we\u2019ll develop programme resources on healthy relationships, mental health, and wellbeing. As part of building connections to our international Scout family, we\u2019ll continue building resources to celebrate cultures experiencing conflict. We\u2019re also building a programme youth team to bring young people\u2019s voices and views directly into our programme, helping it become more youth shaped.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EOver the coming year, we\u2019re exploring new ways to listen to our young people and measure how Scouts has impacted them. This includes:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EMore in-depth qualitative research to further investigate outcomes\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EA revision to the annual survey for 2024\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EA youth data management system in the future\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWe\u2019re also changing the way we recruit survey participants to make sure the results represent the voices of all young people in
