They can span thousands of miles, can be smooth or fibrous (which is when a cloud looks like lots of threads of hair). Cirrostratus clouds often have with cirrus clouds near their edges. Everyone would just need a piece of paper and a pen to draw a grid on, then write in their choice of cloud names.\u0026nbsp;\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ol\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003ECreate some cotton wool clouds\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Col\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EEveryone should take some card, cotton wool, glue and any other craft materials.\u0026nbsp;\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EPeople should use the cotton wool to make different clouds on their card and label them. They should try to make as many different types of clouds as they can. This is a great chance to practise using the scientific words!\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ol\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003EMake your cloud\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Col start=\u00221\u0022\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EEveryone should get into their small groups and each small group should work with an adult.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EEach group needs a 2L empty bottle with a cap, some matches, and a jug of warm water.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EOne person should remove any labels on their bottle.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ENext pour a few centimetres of warm water into the bottle. They should screw the lid back on tightly and shake the bottle, so the inside\u2019s coated with water.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EWhen the group\u0027s ready, take the lid back of the bottle.\u0026nbsp;\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EThe supervising adult in each group should carefully light a match. They should let it burn most of the way, then blow it out and quickly drop it into the bottle. This is where working together comes in handy \u2013 someone can focus on opening and closing the bottle while the adult\u2019s blowing out the match and dropping it in the bottle.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ESomeone in the group should squeeze the bottle as hard as they can. They could try putting the bottle on the floor and standing on it to squeeze it harder. However, no one should jump on it \u2013 it might make the bottle burst.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EWhen the bottle\u0027s been squeezed, everyone should let go of the bottle and watch a cloud start to form.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ESomeone should hold the bottle sideways, open it and gently squeeze the cloud out. Most of the time, pilots use autopilot (a system used to control the path of an aircraft) or digital maps when visibility\u2019s reduced. Pilots may sometimes navigate differently around big clouds, especially cumulonimbus clouds, because they can cause storms and turbulence.
