He began volunteering at 18 and he feels passionately about helping young people gain skills for life.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EBetween 2008 and 2022, Peter was a Deputy County Commissioner and County Commissioner for Merseyside.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EDuring his time as a National Commissioner, Peter supported the organisation of international events like the \u003Ca href=\u0022/volunteers/running-your-section/international-scouts-and-events/international-events/wsj/\u0022 title=\u0022WSJ\u0022\u003EWorld Scout Jamboree\u003C/a\u003E.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EPeter continues to give his time to volunteering. When he first joined 3rd Hindley, the group was run by his father. When his father stepped down, Norman took over as Group Scout Leader.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ENorman\u2019s also been the Wigan District Scout Leader. In this role, he successfully organised and held nearly 50 annual summer camps for young people.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EDespite retiring from his professional career in the legal industry, he\u2019s still an active member of his Scout group and helps to run the weekly sessions.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ENorman says, \u2018I\u2019ve seen first-hand what Scouts did for young people through my own experiences, so I felt it was only right I give back and contribute to the upcoming generation in my community with the same opportunities I was given.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2018I couldn\u2019t have made the differences I have done without the massive support system I had around me.\u2019\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWell done, Norman!\u003C/p\u003E","gtmId":"","gtmClass":""},{"gridType":"RichTextBlock","content":"\u003Ch3\u003EJohn Bennett\u003C/h3\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EJohn\u2019s receiving his King\u2019s Honours award for his voluntary work and service to young people.\u003C/p\u003E","gtmId":"","gtmClass":""},{"gridType":"gridImageBlock","gtmId":"gtmId","gtmClass":"gtmClass","image":"/media/21087/john-bennett.jpg","width":1280,"height":720,"altText":"John Bennett smiles at the camera wearing a beige shirt and yellow and blue necker.","caption":"John Bennett has been recognised for his voluntary work and service to young people","link":null},{"gridType":"RichTextBlock","content":"\u003Cp\u003EHe\u2019ll be awarded an MBE for his voluntary work with Scouts in Cheshire.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 1974, John became a Scout Leader for 38th South West Cheshire after he responded to their call-out for volunteers.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EProfessionally he was a police officer, which meant he had limited free time. Yet, during the summer months, he\u2019d always make sure his one weekend off work was spent as a warden at the County Scout campsite in Sandiway.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EJohn successfully planned for a new Scout meeting place in his local area. He began fundraising in 2013, and by late 2018, the building was ready for community use.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAfter 50 years of volunteering, John\u2019s still very active in his community. He\u2019s currently the Group Scout Leader of 35th South West Cheshire, a District Secretary, County Safety Advisor and a Trustee.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ENotably, his group are preparing for the 2024 Crewe Gang Show, which John loves helping out with. A gang show is a theatre performance put together by Scout groups, and John\u2019s the Technical Director for his local show.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EJohn says, \u2018I\u2019m honoured and humbled to receive this award. Although it\u2019s in my name, I recognise that without a fantastic team behind me, it wouldn\u2019t have been possible.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2018It\u2019s because of the leaders, and others who have given up time to help over the years, that the group has flourished as well as it has.\u2019\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWell deserved, John!\u003C/p\u003E","gtmId":"","gtmClass":""},{"gridType":"RichTextBlock","content":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EA huge well done to our volunteers who\u2019ll receive their awards, we\u2019re hugely proud of you.
