Initially, he sent copies of the manifesto to all local MPs on behalf of the District.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThis initiative evolved into planning youth hustings for when the upcoming general election would be called.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAfter chatting with the District team, it was suggested that creating a challenge could be considered a project for the Scout Of The World Award. He stressed the vital role of youth voices in making meaningful change, as well as ticking off the goals of improving education in regard to democracy, and promoting the institution of government and the role young people can play in it.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EHis first step was to look into what already existed and related to democracy education and youth empowerment. As a Youth Lead, this was also a great opportunity to encourage the YouShape Awards.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EJoseph found impactful initiatives, like \u003Ca rel=\u0022noopener\u0022 href=\u0022https://www.ukparliamentweek.org/en/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EUK Parliament Week\u003C/a\u003E, the \u003Ca rel=\u0022noopener\u0022 href=\u0022https://nya.org.uk/byc/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EBritish Youth Council\u003C/a\u003E, and \u003Ca rel=\u0022noopener\u0022 href=\u0022https://scoutscymru.org.uk/democracy-challenge/#:~:text=This%20challenge%20helps%20young%20people,take%20part%20in%20those%20processes.\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022 data-anchor=\u0022#:~:text=This%20challenge%20helps%20young%20people,take%20part%20in%20those%20processes.\u0022\u003EScouts Cymru Democracy Challenge\u003C/a\u003E activities \u2013 all of which informed the framework of the Changemakers Challenge.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EBy collaborating with the Royal Greenwich Scouts Programme Team, he made sure the challenges were suitable for all ages, from the youngest \u003Ca href=\u0022/squirrels/\u0022 title=\u0022Squirrels\u0022\u003ESquirrel\u003C/a\u003E to the eldest \u003Ca href=\u0022/network/\u0022 title=\u0022Network\u0022\u003ENetwork\u003C/a\u003E member.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWith the general election announcement, he made the decision to launch the challenge promptly. At these events, it was clear that young people do have a voice that needs to be heard by decision makers.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe young people asked questions about education, reaching net-zero and what the candidates could do to help more young people gain skills for life.\u0026nbsp;\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EBeing a changemaker and getting young people involved is essential for developing their leadership skills, promoting active citizenship, and bringing fresh, innovative ideas to modern day issues.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIt empowers young people to speak up and dream big, while making a difference in their communities.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAs Scouts, we\u2019re supporting today\u0027s young people to build brighter tomorrows.
