In Scouts the governing document of each member of the Federation is called their constitution. \u00A0All Trustees must understand their constitution, and make sure it is kept up to date.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EThe principal governing document of The Scout Association is the Royal Charter.\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EIn countries other than Scotland, POR Chapter 5c includes the model constitution which should be adopted by each Group, District and County as their governing document.\u00A0\u003Cbr\u003EIn Scotland, POR Chapter 5d includes the model constitution which should be adopted by each Group, District and County as their governing document.\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EEvery Trustee Board must ensure that their charity\u2019s aims are aligned with The Scout Association\u2019s overall aims and strategic goals and are being delivered effectively and sustainably.\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ol\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E5b.2.1.3 Charitable purpose \u003Cbr\u003E\u003C/strong\u003ECharities exist to fulfil their charitable purposes. Trustees must understand the environment in which the charity is operating and lead the charity in fulfilling its purposes as effectively as possible with the resources available. To do otherwise would be failing beneficiaries, funders and supporters.\u00A0\u00A0\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003E5b.2.1.4 Collective responsibility of Trustees\u00A0\u003C/strong\u003E\u003Cbr\u003EThe Trustees must collectively:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Col style=\u0022list-style-type: lower-alpha;\u0022\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003Eensure that the charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003Ecomply with the charity\u2019s governing document and the law\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003Eact in the charity\u2019s best interests\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003Emanage the charity\u2019s resources responsibly\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003Eact with reasonable care and skill\u00A0\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003Eensure the Scout unit is operating in compliance with POR and the local charity regulator, including effective management of each of the Key Policies listed in POR Chapter 2a.
