{"alias":"contentPage","byline":null,"standfirst":null,"content":{"layouts":[{"type":"sidebar","areas":[{"items":[{"gridType":"RichTextBlock","content":"\u003Cp\u003EWhether we\u2019re recognising a job well done, celebrating a permit or top award, or simply saying \u2018thank you\u2019, we should always take time to reward people in Scouts for their hard work.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Ch4\u003EYour young people\u003C/h4\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EYoung people in all of our sections work really hard to find the courage to try something new, persevere and learn a new skill, dedicate time to earn a new badge or complete their top awards.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EFrom making their promise to their first Scout camp, celebrating everything our young people achieve should be a big deal.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ESome ideas are:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ERoll out the red carpet for a big awards night with glamour and mocktails\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EGiving out fun badges to say well done, celebrate trips or camps, or even their first toasted marshmallow!\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003ECelebrate with a trip to an adventure site or an ice-cream shop\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EHave an awards celebration, investiture or end-of-term party and let young people plan it\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cspan\u003ESome simple words of encouragement can go a long way. Give them a shout-out in\u00A0front of everyone, cheer them on, celebrate them with their parents and carers, or send them a card from all the volunteers to say well done.\u003C/span\u003E\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ERemember, young people shouldn\u2019t have to wait for more than a term to get their award presented. It means so much more if they get it right away. If there\u2019s a large County or District celebration, present it twice.\u00A0\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Ch4\u003EYour volunteer team\u00A0\u003C/h4\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EWe know we\u2019re very lucky to have our volunteers, so we should take every opportunity to celebrate them. \u003C/span\u003E\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIt\u2019s important to celebrate your volunteer team in Scouts,\u00A0including adult volunteers, parent and carer helpers, and young leaders.\u00A0It makes people feel valued, appreciated and motivated, as well as helping with retention.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EMake sure you tell volunteers that you appreciate all they do and tell them regularly, such as at the end of each meeting.\u003C/span\u003E\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ESome ideas are:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EWhen a volunteer gets their Wood Badge, plans a fantastic session, runs a trip or camp, or earns an activity permit, find a way to acknowledge all the hard work they\u2019ve put in.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EUse our Scouts\u00A0\u003Ca href=\u0022https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/learning-development-and-awards/awards-and-recognition/\u0022\u003Eawards scheme\u003C/a\u003E to thank people for their service \u2013 it\u2019s easy to nominate people.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003E\u003Cspan\u003ESome simple words of encouragement can go a long way. They could be presented in front of or by young people, so they acknowledge the commitment too.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EHost an awards night for your local area volunteers to attend and celebrate each other.\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EHowever you celebrate people and recognise achievements, by doing so you\u2019ll bring a smile to their face and you\u2019ll keep them coming back.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Ch4\u003EYour group\u003C/h4\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EEvery year, your Group will achieve some amazing things making a difference to your local community and the families you support.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ERemember the things you do day in and day out each year, such as:\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cul\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EBringing new volunteers into Scouts\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EMaking young people laugh\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EHelping people achieve their goals and learn new skills\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003Cli\u003EHosting big one-off events and residential\u003C/li\u003E\n\u003C/ul\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThese victories are worth celebrating. Why not mark them regularly by posting on social media? You could highlight them to parents and carers and the local community, too.\u003C/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWhy not hold an annual celebration through your AGM?
