Use the Challeneges in you award to shape the experiacne to a values theme

For example, the award could be delivered as a Values in Action project, with each Nights Away experience linked to a different value. A camp with another Troop or overseas Scouts could focus on inclusion and respect, a community or campsite service project could explore social responsibility, while a peer-led camp could encourage participation, leadership and democratic decision-making. Young people would reflect on how these values influenced their actions and interactions throughout the award.

Another example could be a Living Our Values theme, where the challenges provide opportunities to demonstrate values in different environments. An expedition or lightweight camp could develop resilience and responsibility, sharing a camp with 40 or more people could highlight respect and cooperation, while planning and delivering a camp could encourage integrity, accountability and leadership. Reflection activities would help young people identify how these experiences connect to Scouting values and their everyday lives.

A further example could be a Community and Citizenship theme, where activities are used to explore rights, fairness and positive contribution. Challenges involving service projects, district events, camps with other groups or international Scouting experiences could be used to examine how individuals can support others, work collaboratively and contribute to their communities at a local, national and global level.

Values themes
RichTextBlock

Capturing the theme throughout the journey

A theme works best when it runs through the whole award, helping young people connect their experiences and understand the story of their project.

As they work towards their award, encourage young people to capture the moments that matter.
